The students that attended the conference were able to not only improve their academic understanding, but were also able to learn about a culture different to their own. This will undoubtedly help them in the future when they study abroad, whether they choose a university in the UK or the US. Participation in the conference also enhanced their communication, team working and social skills. For many of the delegates this was the first time they had listened to and spoken uninterrupted English for long periods of time. Some of the students have made great friends in the Latin American region, and have expressed a serious interest in returning to the region in the future.
　　　For SCIE, this was a great opportunity to be seen by Harvard, and to develop a relationship with the recruitment advisors. The students showed impeccable behaviour throughout, impressing the organisers and the other schools present at the conference
This was a very successful trip, and by the use of the knowledge gained by the advisors at the conference, a future trip could be even more successful making the Best Delegate award a viable conclusion to future participation. (Written by George)

　　3月17－26日我校3位老师（英语组外教Hamish、经济组商学外教George和商学老师Allen）与17名学生远赴重洋到墨西哥，参加由哈佛大学举办的HACIA民主会议。本次会议在墨西哥五星级酒店Camino Real Santa Fe Mexico召开，一共持续3天（3月20日－22日）。
　　会议的时间安排非常紧凑，白天主要是举行会议，晚上9：00以后是娱乐活动，如卡拉OK、才艺表演和舞会。
大会在正式会议召开的前后都安排了参观旅游，3月19日我们参观了墨西哥人类学国家博物馆——拉美地区最大的博物馆，领略了印第安人古老文化的绚烂光彩。3月23日上午我们参观了墨西哥最大的天主教堂Basilica of Guadalupe Cathedral，下午参观了太阳金字塔Pyramid of the Sun，塔高65米，体积100万立方米，是阿兹台克人所建造的特奥蒂瓦坎古城遗迹的主要组成部分，当年这里是祭祀太阳神的地方，。
　　会议围绕民主问题进行讨论，开幕式和闭幕式期间都邀请当地著名的政治家来作报告。大会设有六个主题会场：Inter-American Commission of Women, Pan-American Health Organization, Inter-American Commission on Indigenous Issues, Committee on Hemispheric Security, The OAS Special Mission, Inter-American Court of Human Rights，使用两种语言（英语和西班牙语）。
　　通过参加这次会议我们学生收获颇多，他们首先意识到团队合作的重要性，每一个主题的最终解决方案都需要小组成员之间展开相互讨论、协商，还要说服其它小组的成员，以期最终达成一致意见。不仅如此，参加此次会议拓宽学生们在社会、政治和经济等方面的知识面，学生们要自己选择主题国家，并尽量收集相关方面的资料并写成论文，还要准备辩论/讨论的文稿，与此同时，在会议进程中也可以直接从其它成员身上领略和学习不同的社会文化习俗。同学们在会议期间长时间沉浸在全英语的环境中，他们意识到使用简洁、清晰的口语是十分重要的，很多学生表示回国后要进一步加强对英语口语的学习。
　　这次会议由于是由哈佛大学主办，因此，对我们的同学来说，也开辟了申请哈佛大学的一条途径，每一个大会主题的主席都为所有参加会议的代表，简要地介绍了申请哈佛的条件和哈佛的校园生活。使我们特别高兴的是，哈佛大学的招生联系人又单独为我校学生作了一次介绍。据说在大会的每一个主题活动中表现最好的前三个学生被哈佛相中的机会很高，于是，北美地区的国际学校每年都会派代表参加HACIA大会，并且他们之中的佼佼者每年也都有被哈佛大学录取的。
　　总之，我校学生参加这次国际会议不仅能提高他们的学术知识，而且能够体验不同国家的文化差异，为他们今后适应国外学习生活提前作好准备。在会议进程中同学们提高了沟通交流能力和团队协作意识，而会后与其它代表队员之间的交往也增进了青年学生彼此的了解、加深了友谊。
　　　本次墨西哥之旅，对于我校参加HACIA大会的同学来说，是一个成功、安全，并极其富有教育意义的经历。让我们关注下一次这样的活动。（据可靠消息，下一次大会的主办方老师已经对我校发出了热情的邀请）
