In order to encourage students to improve their oral skills in the public arena, the English club has decided to hold several school heats and an interschool final in public speaking. Here students are to speak for three minutes on a prepared topic and then after 1 minute’s preparation speak for a further 1.5 minutes on a hypothetical situation given to them by one of the judges. Two heats have taken place by the time of print and according to some judging teachers, the levels of performance were quite impressive.
　　为鼓励学生在公开场合使用英语及提高口语技巧，英语俱乐部近期在校内举行了几场英语口语选拔赛并将最终与另一所学校进行决赛。在比赛中，选手需要做三分钟事先准备好的演讲，一分钟后需根据评委老师给出的假定情况做一分半的即兴演讲。交付印刷时已进行完两场比赛，据一些评委老师反映，同学们的英语水平让人印象深刻。

　　This is the first time that the English club has ventured into interschool activities and it should prove to be very exciting, judging by the calibre of students who have participated so far.

　　The final performance against students from the Shenzhen Middle School will be held on Monday 9th March at 4.30pm – 6.30 pm in SCIE’s auditorium.
　　我校胜出的学生将于3月9日在学校大礼堂与来自深圳中学的学生进行最后的决赛。
