The most popular sports event among students, the SCIE Basketball Competition, finally started on 4th January 2010, the first day back from the Christmas and New Year Holiday. The championship will last for about four weeks, and will finish before the Chinese New Year holiday. Matches are played in form class units which are grouped into A-level or G-level categories according to grades. The boys’ teams first play in a group stage, with the two top-scoring teams advancing into semi-finals and finals, while the girls’ teams, given their relatively small numbers, will just play round-robin matches to decide their ranking. 
作为最受学生们欢迎的体育项目，SCIE篮球赛在1月4日圣诞假返校后的第一天开始了，它将持续进行四周，在新年假前结束。比赛以行政班级为单位，分为Ａ年级组和Ｇ年级组。半决赛和决赛在小组赛中最强的两组队伍中进行。而女生队由于参赛人数较少，将采用循环赛决定排名。
The basketball season this year was switched from September to January, a much colder month to play basketball outdoors. However, high standard games are still being shown everyday after school by passionate and skilful players. The packed audience cheered loudly with every display of successful dribbling, shots and blocks. There have been many closely fought matches where the screaming and cheering never ceased throughout the match. With team honour at stake, the gallery spared no effort in voicing their support for their classmates.

今年的赛季由去年九月份改为今年一月，这对篮球这项室外运动来说是一个较寒冷的季节。然而，我校富有技巧且激情的运动员们仍为大家呈现了一场场高标准的比赛。比赛中每一次成功的运球，投篮，盖帽都会赢得拥挤的观众群中爆发的欢呼声。很多比分紧密相扣的比赛中，由始至终观众们的尖叫声和欢呼声都未停止过。在集体的荣誉面前，观众们都不遗余力地为自己班的同学呐喊加油。
When this report is submitted for publication, the A-level boys’ category will have seen A1-5/6, A2-6/7, A1-4/7 and A2-1/2/4 progress to the semi-finals while the G-level top-scoring teams are G1-1, G2-2/5, G2-1 and G2-4.

“This year’s games are as popular as ever,” said Shift, the Head of the PE Department, “but one notable difference is that sportsmanship has been elevated to a new height on the court this year.” When asked of the reasons for this change, Shift concluded, “the players are competing for collective glory and team honour, and they realise now that sportsmanship is part of this glory and honour. Of course, winning is too.”
“今年比赛和往年一样受到了学生们的欢迎，”体育组组长谢福泽说道：“但有一点显著不同的是今年的赛事中体育精神得到了很好的提升。”当被问到为何会有此改变时，谢老师总结道：“今年，参赛选手都为集体的荣誉而战，他们意识到了体育精神也是荣誉的一部分。当然，获胜也是。”

The success of the season so far is closely linked with the help of the enthusiastic volunteers. Twelve of the volunteers were recruited as recorders in the basketball matches. Divided into two groups, the recorders helped the referees record the fouls and scores during the games. “Thanks to the volunteers, the basketball games are much easier to run and manage now. All volunteers are very serious about their work,” said Erica Wei, Head of the Sports Department in the Student Union.
赛事的成功和热情的志愿者们密不可分。有十二位志愿者们通过召集成为了比赛的记录员。分为两组，帮助裁判记录犯规和得分。“真的要谢谢这些志愿者们，使得比赛更容易进行和管理了。所有的志愿者对于自己的工作都很认真。”学生会体育部部长魏晓阳同学说。
